Commissioning Services

 A commissioner for taking oaths is a person who is entitled to take affidavits, administer oaths, declarations, and affirmations. Commissioners for taking oaths in Ontario are governed by the Commissioners for Taking Oaths Act. All lawyers in Ontario are commissioners for taking oaths by virtue of their office. 


Some common documents that require commissioning include:


  • Affidavits, such as proof of residency;


  • Applications for a change of name;


  • Student loan forms; and 


  • Caregiver travel forms.
